Sun and moon
Two characters draw a rayed disc: U+2600 BLACK SUN WITH RAYS filled and U+263C WHITE SUN WITH RAYS hollow. U+2609 SUN is a different thing altogether — the astronomical sign, a circle with a dot at its centre, used as notation rather than as a picture. It is also the only character in the whole set with East Asian width Ambiguous, so it is the only one whose column width changes with a terminal setting.
The moon appears as two phases and no more: U+263D FIRST QUARTER MOON and U+263E LAST QUARTER MOON, crescents facing opposite ways. U+262A STAR AND CRESCENT is a single character holding both shapes — if you were looking for a moon with a star beside it, that is one codepoint rather than two pasted together, and it is the only character in this plane with CRESCENT in its name.
The planetary signs
U+263F MERCURY, U+2641 EARTH, U+2643 JUPITER, U+2644 SATURN, U+2645 URANUS, U+2646 NEPTUNE and U+2647 PLUTO are astronomical notation: one character standing in for the name of a body.
Venus and Mars are missing, and the reason is a naming one. No character anywhere in this plane is named VENUS or MARS. Those two signs are encoded under their other names, the female and male signs, so a search of character names for planets does not return them and a catalogue built that way comes back two short.
Several bodies have more than one sign, and Unicode encodes each shape as its own character rather than leaving the choice to a font: U+2645 URANUS beside U+26E2 ASTRONOMICAL SYMBOL FOR URANUS, U+2646 NEPTUNE beside U+2BC9 NEPTUNE FORM TWO, and U+2647 PLUTO with four further forms at U+2BD3 to U+2BD6. Two documents can name the same body with different codepoints, and a byte comparison will not match them.
Three characters here are named for points rather than for bodies: U+26B8 BLACK MOON LILITH, U+2BDD WHITE MOON SELENA and U+2BDF TRUE LIGHT MOON ARTA.
EARTH GROUND is not the planet
U+23DA EARTH GROUND is the electrical earth symbol and comes from the technical range rather than the astronomical one. The planet is U+2641 EARTH. Two characters with EARTH in the name and two unrelated jobs; the codepoint is the only reliable way to tell which one a document used.
The CJK characters that came with the search
Fifteen characters in this set belong to CJK text rather than to astronomy: the radicals at U+2E9C, U+2E9D, U+2F1F, U+2F47 and U+2F49, the annotation mark U+319E, the parenthesized and circled ideographs at U+322A, U+322F, U+3230, U+328A, U+328F and U+3290, the line figures U+2637 TRIGRAM FOR EARTH and U+4DC1 HEXAGRAM FOR THE RECEPTIVE EARTH, and U+C21C HANGUL SYLLABLE SUN. They are in a sun and moon set because their names contain the words sun, moon or earth. All fifteen are East Asian width W and take two cells.
Several of them also do not survive normalisation. Under NFKC, KANGXI RADICAL SUN and CIRCLED IDEOGRAPH SUN both collapse to the same ordinary CJK ideograph: the circle and the radical identity are discarded and the two become the same character. If a circled form has to stay circled, it must not pass through a field that normalises.
