Symbols and special characters, each one listed with the name Unicode actually gives it. Nothing here is an image and nothing needs to load.
Every character carries its real name
Most symbol sites show you a glyph and a label somebody made up. Every character on this site
is listed with its official Unicode name and codepoint, taken from the character database rather
than typed out, because the name is what tells you which character you actually have. There are
several things that look like a star and only some of them are stars; ⋆ is
U+22C6 STAR OPERATOR and belongs to mathematics.
Some of these sets are small, and that is the answer
The music note set is four characters. Sharp, flat and natural are three more. That is not a
shortcut — it is the entire repertoire that survives being pasted into an ordinary text
field, and it is why those are the ones people actually use.
What will not paste, and why we say so
The full musical notation set — every clef, every rest, every whole note — lives
high in Unicode and needs four bytes per character. A great many systems store text three bytes
to the character, so those symbols are rejected or cut short on the way in. Rather than offer
them and let the paste fail somewhere else, the page that covers them says plainly which ones
travel and which do not.
